beauty makeup monday: shellac

Our manicures never last. Until now. All hail shellac! While we're disappointed in the staggeringly unimpressive non-rainbow array of colors, we are impressed with it's two-week, no chip, shiny lacquer. And, no more applying that clear coat on the morning commute. Ever. Happy sea green Monday! Short, round and shiny. Just how we like it.

simple style sunday: motor it

Happy simple style sunday. We can't get enough of the incoming fall fashion and decided, what the heck, let's break out the "motorcycle boots" for the evening. Complete with "Lincoln Park After Dark," we're ready for fall.  Hope these babies help to motor you through everyone's favorite day of the week, Monday.

Simply styled, with leggings and a grey Ann Taylor shirt dress.

well- heeled wardrobe wednesday: high heel loafers

It's our first well - heeled wardrobe Wednesday. The latest in wardrobe care, organization, and of course shoes! Because what wardrobe is complete without a few pairs for every occasion...  and then some. With the September Issues hitting newsstands, thought we'd discuss one of our favorite fall trends. We're just about in love with high heeled loafers, which give the classy gal a little bit of edge as Autumn approaches. Check out some of this fabulous elongating gam magic below:

Cool color blocking 70s vibe from  River Island

Gorgeous black patent from Pour La Victoire

Lovely burnt orange from Boutique 9

Looking back, we're so glad we decided to keep these from Top Shop, despite all the customer service kerfluffle!

Happy hump day!

beauty makeup monday: josie maran argan oil match maker foundation

Happy Monday! Continuing with our weekday series, welcome to the first beauty/makeup Monday.

Alright, we're not usually one to say this.... but we're pretty brand loyal when it comes to beauty products.  When we find something we like, we stick to it. It doesn't have to be fancy schmancy. Hell, we could spend the whole day at Walgreens. It just has to work. So when Vogue sent us this new fangled foundation to try, well, we were skeptical.  I mean what beats MAC face and body?!

However, with a smell like freshly pressed apple juice, and perfect skin matching magical technology,we have to say we were quite surprised at how lovely Josie Maran's Argan Oil Matchmaker foundation really is.

When you open the bottle, the foundation appears and comes out white... and smells incredibly delicious

Sponges, that's the way to go ladies. Once you've gone with the sponge, you never go back (yet, again another Walgreens shout out- you can find the best one's there).

See, the foundation is still white, and super thick, but, once you smooth it on your skin, it soaks it up like the most glorious lotion, and changes like a magical, mystical chameleon to match your exact skin tone. I tested it on my hand here. Perfection! (  Well, except for my "Man Hand" below). So awesome for summer with all the sun kissed weekend bronzing going on. It's a spot on match even after a little sun tan.

simple style sunday: red, bangles, animal print

Welcome to another simple style sunday lovelies. With the September glossies all over bold color and textured animal hair accessories this fall season, these pieces are right on trend.

WEAR: Red, Leopard and Bangles.

We've been searching high and low for the perfect red pair. These stretchy BDG's from Urban are super soft and sassy at the same time. Paired with these flat leopard oxford types from Zara, there's no stopping you now (we're a big believer that no closet is complete without a bit of leopard pop!) With all this going on down below, we suggest pairing with a cream silky top to balance out the party. Don't forget your wrists with a mix of bangles.

bangles!

We don't know about you, but we've spotted some rather lovingly and heavily adorned wrists lately, and we simply can't get enough. Function aside, these New Yorker's (as profiled by Refinery 29) have got it going on.

From tough love and layered grommets....

to creamy accents paired with heavy metal and wooden hardware...

we're hoping our wrists can handle all this fabulousness! We're also especially fond of this new chantilly lace cuff from Stella & Dot

Happy bangle- ling!

simple style sunday: navy with gold

We love Sundays. It seems like everything that's good is saved for the day that ends the week.... brunch, sleeping in, lazy sunny afternoons anyone? With Monday looming and the week ahead in need of style inspiration, we decided this was the perfect time to begin our new simple style Sunday series.

WEAR: Navy with Gold
We love Navy, especially when it's silk Marc by Marc Jacobs! Paired with a gold mesh vest, simple bangles, and our favorite Van Cleef look-a-like, it's the perfect amount of polish and fun. Plus, a little nude heel never hurt anyone.

All The Way Up Here, Missoni's little doll

A little doll shared with us some of new fab items from the Missoni for Target line.... that's right, Target and Missoni have "hired" a little doll to do a some blogging for them, launching a sneak peak of what's to come of the collection. It seems that Target has decided to release all news about its Missoni line launching next month through the blog, All the Way Up Here. It's author describes herself thusly: "I'm little Marina and I'm a real doll. That’s right, joints, hinges and all. And like every doll, I'm obsessed with everything stylish in the world. So that's what my blog is all about. I hope you enjoy the view." I've sure got my eye on these scarves and the teacups!  Why couldn't they have hired me??!

Zara gets hip to e-commerce

Zara has finally caught up with the rest of the world’s technological progress. The Spanish retailer has set the date for September 7th, 2011— a full year after the brand launched e-commerce in Europe. Why it took them so long, is a mystery to us, but we're thankful nonetheless! Can't wait to start scouring for those key fall wardrobe updates. We're loving these demure and exceptionally chic dresses from the fall/winter collection below. We'll be saving the date, along with the 13th for Missoni's collaboration with Target!

Mixing Prints

Since prints are everywhere this summer season, we thought we'd highlight a question from one of our recent clients, Alaina.

Q: How do I mix prints into my outfits?
I have been dying to try mixing prints in my outfits to add a bit of casual coolness to them, but I don't even know where to begin! –Alaina, 20

A: Hi Alaina. Good question! Prints are hot right now - you can find everything from chevron, to floral, ikat, and tribal in pieces running the gamut from shoes to headbands and even pants! It's no wonder you're not sure where to start. Since you don't have a lot of printed pieces in your wardrobe, I'd suggest picking up a few key pieces to accessorize with to add a bit of pizzaz to a basic neutral outfit.

Cinch and amp up a basic shirt dress with this fabulous belt from asos. Every gal should have at least one leopard print in their closet.

Or give your outfit a fun pop of color with these fun "idiom" printed bangles from Kate Spade. We love the inspirational phrases that are written on the underside of each bangle.

Lastly, a cute clutch can also work to add a bit of panache and fun to even the most basic of looks. This chevron print is super hot right now.
