tuesday trendsday: fashionable flats

So, if you haven't noticed by now, we have a thing for flats. While this is a more recent obsession ( read: we are still a high-heeled gal), there is no shortage of fabulous finds in this particular genre of footwear at the moment. We're especially fond of the following for this coming spring ( and hey, they're pretty friendly on the wallet, wouldn't you say?) :
flats!
  1. This chic little color blocked number is rocking all the right hues. The Hattie by Shoemint is the brands "preview" shoe for Feb and we think it's just lovely. Wouldn't you agree? For $79.99 ( or one credit) it's a little pricier, but we love it just the same.
  2. We already posted about this fabulous find last week, but Target has this great smoking slipper in at least a couple of shades for a mere $20. Vilda, we love you; we want you.
  3. Pinterest led us to this amazing ASOS Penny Loafer ( If you're not on the big P, you're missing out!) and hello it's in mint! Need we say more? Oh yes, the price: $68.
  4. And, last, but certainly not least... it could be our favorite, although we hate to play favorites, is the Isabela Toledo for Payless. For $44.99, this Marina flat is perfect for the days of sun ahead!
What's on your spring shoe wish list?

simple style sunday: mimosas & musing

We think that putting together a relaxed, yet chic, outfit for running errands ( and, ok, brunching with friends, too) can be somewhat challenging. We want to read comfy, effortless, and carefree - not, slobby, slouchy, and careless. It's one - of- those, how to look like we didn't care, but still care ensembles.... know what I mean? To that effect, we channeled the man's closet ( because let's face it, men can just throw on a shirt and look great, right?) and paired it with simple black leggings, boots and bangles. With an all but plain vintage coach cross-body bag ( so having a moment right now), we're out the door for mimosa's, mingling and musing down Home Depot bathroom fixture aisle's. We should have saved this post for Thursday, since this look is quite thrifty, and we're quite proud of our newfound fashion frugality!

One of these days we'll show off a picture of our face, but we're in between color stages (it's back to blonde baby) and not looking so great right now. Plus taking a self portrait (at least a good one) is hard!

Top: White Sweatshirt- Gap, UpShift, Free*
Pants: Black leggeings, Lauren Conrad for Kohls- Kohls, $8
Shirt: Men's blue suited shirt, vintage - Marshall Field's, ReThreads, $8

Watch: Grandmother's Timex

Here's to a fabulous week ahead!

friday favs

Friday is our favorite day of the week. Winding down from the past five days of work, there's an optimism that begins the day, quickly turning into excited anticipation for what's to come this weekend. While we haven't any solid plans for the weekend (yet), we wanted to share two fav finds for the day.

The first is an amazing little home decor item.... a brass sea urchin to be exact. Can't wait to pick one of these little guys up. Furbish Studio has all kinds of nice... perfect for anyone looking to amp up their home decor.

Here's a pic of of the little guy in action.

And, what's a post on faves, without a mention of a good shoe? That's right. On the heels of our obsession of all things mint, we spotted these totally awesome (and totally out of our price-range) YSL's. Lovely, yes?

Happy Friday, and let the weekend begin!

thrifty thursday: gucci on the free

For the past month ( ok, like 2 or 3) we've been obsessing over loafers. We know, right? A shoe without *gasp* a heel? Yes, this flat foot thing has historically not been us, however, we can't get enough of them. So imagine our sheer delight ( yes, we did a little woo hoo!) when we stumbled upon a fabulous pair of the Italian leather grade, Gucci no less, for free? Wait. Where, what and how?

At UpShift (um, of course?), one of our new favorite local gems in town.  For a $20 donation ( okay, not exactly free, but basically) you get to unload a bunch of your old digs ( read: no longer worn and gently used clothing, accessories, what have you) and exchange them for whatever you fancy in the fully sustainable boutique, which local designer and merchandiser, Lindsay Leno, started in her home.... um so #totesamaze, right? Yes, it is. If you're in Madison, you definitely need to check it out.

Perfect for today's thrifty thursday, here's a shot of our  basically free Gucci loafer's ( a bit MJ, but we think they're rockin. No?) Throw in some bangles, an H&M striped tank and our Grandmother's old Timex and we're out the door.

We just love a good thrift find, don't you?
Scored anything good lately??

tuesday trendsday: neon & neutral

Remember when everyone's favorite color was "hot," as in hot pink, or hot yellow? No? Maybe we were weird ( and still are), however while some form of "hot" is always in, neon is back in a big way! Regardless of your budget, there's room for everyone to turn up the temp. Whether it's via a few choice accessories, or you're up for going bold with a pair of hot yellow pants, neon is here to stay ( at least for a little while)! Not only are the shades  rockin, but "neon" is just a cool word, no? (Say it five times fast and it will be).

Do: heat up your basics with a little neon pop.

Don't: attempt turning the dial so far that you're competing with the sun. May we suggest pairing a few key neon pieces with some cooler neutral shades for an overall balancing effect. If you're less daring, a peek of a little hot pink sock can go a long way. :)

Personally, we're a not as daring as to don a pair of sunny bright pants; we'd be more apt to pick up that delicious orange watch or the skirt. While we swoon over BA, that's just too much to pay for a yellow shoe, no?

Happy Tuesday!

operation bathroom: spa

We're always so relaxed at the spa. We thought, why not channel a little bit of it at home? Adding some little luxe details, organization and natural elements, we created a nice effect to house some of our daily must haves. We're hoping to begin our morning routine just a little bit more at ease.

Trays: Target
Jars: Target

Here's to creating a little "spa" of your own!

winter weekend

Winter was out in full force this weekend. And, we decided to embrace it. Complete with homemade baked hot chocolate ( thanks to Chassity @ look, linger, love)  (yes, it's more delicious and amazing than it looks) and cozying up in sweaters and plaid (channeling the north woods up der hey), the past two days were as much about relaxing and indulging as they were about nesting, with fresh coats of paint on "project entry way" (more details on this to come).  There's just something soothing and renewing about a fresh coat of white paint... hope you all had a great weekend. Here's to a fashionable and fabulous week ahead!

thrifty thursday: cheap chic finds

For today's thrify thursday, thought we'd post a few chic items we've found on the cheap: for your feet, home and to add to any arm party.

First up is the amazing chunky agate and chainlink bracelet from Oia Jewels. Isn't it fabulous? We're all about chunky chains. And , juxtaposed with this natural stone element, it definetly makes a statement. We sugggest visiting thier Etsy store and snagging it for a mere $35.

What's a great appetizer, without a great plate? These sweet Morroccan appetizer plates, from Jayson Home, feature lovely geometric patterns in fun colors. Hard to go wrong at a mere $10.

We're also swooning over these amazing agate cheese plates ( a little too pricey for us at the moment but lovely all the same).

Last, but certainly not least, the smoking slipper! Ahh! We are dying over this color, and for $20 at Target, it's sort of a no-brainer. Also in these amazing colors.

Any other great design and style finds on the cheap?

tuesday trendsday: one for one

Okay, I'll admit it. This one for one thing isn't new. It's not exactly up and coming, on the cusp, what have you; it's more tried and true. Now, iconic if you will. Still a trend is a trend. I'll explicate. It is probably best known ( and I believe originated in 2006) by TOMS, the uber hip shoe company, started by a man, aptly named, Tom. Who, for every shoe (and now sunglasses) purchased, gives one to a child in need. Neat, right?  Well, if you haven't heard, Warby Parker does the same with specs. We love them and think you should too. With a great selection of cool frames/colors for every face, we deiced to give their five specs for five days at home try-on program a go.

The packaging is great and will be super easy to return ( totally free shipping both ways). And, they arrived within two days of my frame selection online! Talk about fast free shipping.

Our five frames. Notice the minty green nails... hee hee. Yes, we're a little obsessed with this color at the moment.

We were planning on sharing pics of all five, but seriously, most of them looked so absolutely ridiculous on us, that we didn't want to scare you away - not yet anyway! Think that we'll be going with The Webb (as revealed yesterday). Can't wait for our "official" eye piece to arrive. Now we just need to get our hair color back to where it was... a much lighter, sandy blond shade.

Oh, and if you love TOMs, their ballet flats arrive Feb 1st!

What do you think?
