thrifty thursday: Malin + Goetz

This lovely apothecary is turning eight, and they're giving us all %15 off to celebrate. Woo! We discovered them on a business trip sometime ago, while staying at the fabulous Soho Grand, in NYC (while the hotel was fab, the photoshoot/production we were on, was anything but).  Needless to say, we were thankful for these lovely little spa luxuries.... and the generous mini bar.

Family-owned and operated, since 20004, this apothecary resides in New York's Chelsea neighborhood. While modern in every way, the store is similar to traditional neighborhood apothecaries of years past: full of activity, wonderful treatments, and great customer service. Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz waited on each customer themselves for the first three years and still live in Chelsea around the corner from the store, similar to chemists 100 years ago.

A few of our faves from the line:

$30-  The 1oz Essential Kit: perfect for traveling and a little sampling, this little kit  contains the best selling cleanser and moisturizer for face, body and hair–Grapefruit Face Cleanser, Vitamin E Face Moisturizer, Bergamot Body Cleanser, Vitamin b5 Body Moisturizer, Peppermint Shampoo and Cilantro Conditioner.

$52 - Almost as refreshing as the drink, this lovely candle is synthesized with natural notes of fresh lime and mint to instantly uplift and arouse the senses and spirits. Enlivens, energizes and awakens any environment with the stimulation of fresh and cool. Inspired by the iconic mojito cocktail, the top notes are lime, mint leaves, and peppery basil, a heart of spearmint and chinese mint, with a base note of white musk. So yummy!

$32 - We love the smell of this Bergatmot Body Wash. Synthesizing natural bergamot with amino acid-based cleansing agents, it works to hydrate while cleansing without irriating or drying at the same time. Natural fragrance and color.

To snag one of these puppies at a deal (or any of their other fabulous products), just enter code (at check out): ANNIVERSARY

The code is good through Sunday.

One of the best things about this company are all the lovely little samples you can choose, for free!

Stay lovely!

a pop of red and polka dots

This summery weather has us feeling rather preppy. In good spring fashion, we suggest sporting a fresh pop of red and a touch of whimsy with polka dots - not to mention, green, one of our colors of the moment. Happy second "official" day of spring!

We're loving delicate accessories these days.
These gold and silver hammered stackable rings are by Stella & Dot

spotlight on Good Natured by Dani

A little surprise arrived in the mail this week, just when we needed it most! Right on trend for spring, we received this fabulous necklace ( and earrings too) in one of our colors of the moment, mint.  Yay for new jewels!

Dani's Etsy shop also boasts some really cute felt animals, and housewares among other things.

Hope everyone had a great Monday!

a little weekend diy

If you're like us, you read magazines like you're studying for an upcoming exam: ripping out pages, dog earring them, sometimes even highlighting or underlining. To help us control our magazine mayhem and keep our precious pages with great ideas organized, we were on the hunt for something... what exactly, was yet to be determined.

But, leave it to a trip to Marshall's to help us spot something great. We picked up this funny colored looking rack for $20

and then spray painted it to lend itself better to our decor. The original color wasn't too bad, but it didn't quite go with the rest of the room. I'm thinking it could look really nice in white as well.

What do you think? We decided it went really nicely up against the wall in the corner of our room, kitty corner and behind a couple of our couches and end table. It may work fabulously on a wall of another room when we get the itch to move things around again.

Standing over this rack with a can of spray paint was literally the extent of our activity this weekend. Knee is still trying to heal itself up ( although, we did get a lot of studying magazine reading done!)

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Happy St. Patty's Day!

With St. Patty's Day right around the corner, here are a couple little pieces of "nice" to celebrate the occasion. And, while we're not one to take part in the over indulgent debauchery of this day ( especially since our knee surgery has rendered us temporarily invalid), we do think that investing in a little good luck charm is perfectly acceptable.
While we're not one to say no to a bold cuff or statement necklace, these days, we're all about delicate gold accessories. These real hand-dipped  14K gold (or silver) four leaf clovers are perfect to bring a little luck 'o the Irish your way. Aren't they cute? And, not too terribly pricey either.

Did you know that for every four-leaf clover, it has been estimated that there are approximately 10,000 three-leaf clovers?

The special keepsake pendants are sold on necklace chains, but can also be custom ordered ($96-$102; MichelleRoyLosAngeles.com).

We're also loving this new fresh scent from Chloe'. Perfect for spring, L'Eau de Chloe' opens with refreshing notes of grapefruit, cedrat and sweet peach, blending with natural rose water. It ends with warm notes of cedarwood, patchouli essence and amber - for an additctive and distinctive scent.

If not for St. Patty's Day, perhaps we'll find this in our Easter basket?

How are you guys celebrating?

sweet citrus

With all this talk about tangerine, our craving for everything citrus took on a new tone: creamy smooth lemon. Literally. So, we whipped up these fabulous little lemon pudding cakes -perfect for an early spring and Easter treat. So yummy!

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature, cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest, plus 1/3 cup of fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher slat
  • 3 teaspoons turbinado or some other coarse sugar ( we used a bit more than this!)

Do:
  1. Heat oven to 350 F. Place 4 six-ounce ramekins or a 2-quart baking dish inside a large roasting pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and flour; set aside. In a second medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and butter until combined. Whisk in the milk and lemon zest and juice. Add the lemon mixture to the sugar mixture and whisk until smooth.
  3. Using an electric mixer, beat the egg white and salt on medium-high until stiff peaks form, 2 to 3 minutes. In 3 additions, gently fold the egg whites into the lemon sugar mixture.
  4. Divide the pudding mixture among the ramekins or pour into the baking dish. Diving evenly , sprinkle with the turbinado sugar. To the roasting pan, add just enough hot water to reach halfway up the sides of the ramekins or baking dish. Bake until the tops are golden brown, 40 -45 minutes for cakes in the ramekins and 30 -35 minutes for a cake in a baking dish
Thanks to Real Simple for this lovely luscious lemon dessert!

What are some of your favorite Easter treats?

tantalizing tangerine

yes, we know, the news about tango, pantone's color of the year, is well, old.... however, we simply can't get enough of this tantalizing hue, especially with the warmer weather approaching and all this springing forward. So below, a couple of our most recent tangerine indulgences ( our newest colour obsession).

While we're not big fans of JCP ( don't even get us started on their attempt at re-branding - curious to see how this "nothing on sale" retail strategy will pay out), this yummy little number caught our eye, and for $15, there's not much that can go wrong, right?  We suggest pairing with a nude shoe and some delicate gold accessories like these found here at Spark & Pepper.

We also tested out this amazing tea concoction! Quite delish, if we do say so ourselves!
Thanks Amy, from New Nostalgia

And P.S. Many apologies for the lack of posts lately. With the upcoming surgery this week and our mind completely absorbed in finishing up the Hunger Games Trilogy, we got a bit side tracked!

well heeled wednesday: zara

With the impending knee surgery next week, footwear has been on our minds lately - much more so than our usual weekly obsessing. And, with Pinterest doing nothing more than to feed our feverish fire, we're going crazy over some of the most recent Zara heels. Really, they are killing us. Below a few of our faves:

a strappy heel of the mint ( of course) variety. Reminds me of a little of what LV is showing for spring

There's something so elegantly simple, but utterly fabulous about this simple strappy sandal
Loving the two tones on this flat. A must for summer!

Not loving the yellow color... however that gold tip makes all the difference

We need this lucite heel

Last, but not least another little strappy number. We're all about two - toned lately

Not only are Zara's shoes amaze, they've got some really great looks for spring as well.

beauty make-up monday: bliss

Who doesn't love a little Bliss? The wintery weekend kept us indoors indulging ourselves with baked hot chocolate, some good reading, and of course a little at home spa.  The brand, used exclusively at Bliss Spa in NYC and now in countless W Hotels nationally, is one of our faves. Not only is the packaging hip and fabulous, but the products, do, well leave us just that much happier, because they deliver.

A spotlight on a few of our daily must-haves:

We take the day off with a little Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face- Wash. Gentle, with a fresh, like you just stepped out of the rain and frolicked through a grassy field scent, this little cleanser packs just the right punch for a wake-up in the morning and a soothing effect for evening. We love that our skin feels, soft clean and fresh without being totally dried out.

Next up it's High Intensity Hand Cream, for those days when your dexterity's just seem to always be dry. We keep one of these puppies at our desk for a little 3pm relaxation.

Last, but certainly not least, we are a sucker for this Lemon and Sage Body Butter. The smell is simply to die for.

How do you bliss?

Happy Monday everyone!
