sun - ssentials

With the first "official" weekend of summer past, we figured it was time to get-it-together and establish the go to list for beauty essentials. Given, that often, come summer, things start to get a little unruly.... especially in the hair department....

See what I mean?

With that, our go-to summer list of beauty essentials - take note:

Locks:
  1. See wide tooth combs for helping detangle wet messes. This one by Cricket is infused with argan and oilve oils to expertly detangle and smooth without tearing hair. Nice!
  2. After showering, Morrocan Oil is a glosser, de-frizzer, hair god. Plus it smells AMAAAZE. We recommend daily use (clearly we need to stock up).
  3. A little dab'll a do ya of Aveda's damage remedy to help keep those locks looking fresh after taking a beating from the sun, wind and waves.
Skin:
  1. We love this cute Sun Bum SPF50 + Clear Zinc Oxide, perfect for ensuring that pretty face doesn't age a day. Plus it comes in a hippie chic surfer tub.
Face:
  1. This Quercetin & Oak Antiaging Antiwrinkle & Firming Face Serum from Korres is so fabulous. Really, we're not into all that fancy schmancy wrinkle reducing type schtuff, but we love the smell and fresh glow this serum offers. Not to mention it's super moisturizing!

Are you all ready for summer?

shall we go boating?

It's officially boating season, ushering in crisp whites, light and airy knits, and casual footwear, longing to be broken in while sunning on deck. We're taking out ours for the inaugural ride this weekend. An exercise at the epitome of employing casual comfort chic, we can't wait to soak in tangerine beams, tumble through waves and take in the comforting breath of the lake. So slather on the SPF and let's get to kicking this season off right. Judging by how the first half of the year has gone, we can't ignore the feeling it's going to be one hell of a summer.

In preparation, we bring you the key pieces and accoutrements of the boating variety

Wear:
  1. Don the denim cutoff in classic all- americana fashion
  2. Slip out of Topsiders of the Sperry, seasoned sea variety (we're craving navy blue at the moment)

Imbibe in:
  1. A refreshing light beverages such as our favorite cocktail, Big Gingers, complete with ample squeezes of both lemon and lime ( recipe forthcoming)
  2. Don't neglect the water. Coveting this water bottle from Calypso St. Barth. Umm, hello it has a skull on it!

Bring
  1. A slouchy canvas bag to stash your reads, skin and hair essentials
  2. Headwear to protect and shield

Hope you all have a fabulous holiday weekend! Can't wait to get out on the water!

spotlight on terrariums

We're not haters. But, we're lot loving the short-in-the-the-front and party in the back business that's trending amongst tees and tops of late. Seriously. Get rid of these belly shirts; they've had their day, and they weren't pretty. Enough hate.

What we are loving, are terrariums. Well, terrariums of sorts. And why, we embarked upon creating our own fishbowl, terrarium-esque centerpieces ( inspiration courtesy of Pinterest). We considered doing a tutorial, but in all honesty, it was purely an experiment in moss ripping, stone placing and stick sticking - assemblages that somehow that came together quite nicely.

Besides looking lovely, they also have a nice earthy and fresh, like-I-just-cut-the-grass, aroma. What do you think? ( ps. we don't cut grass. We let the husband do that)

Neat, right? Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! It's great weather here!!

color splash

With spring in full force and summer right on its heels, we're longing for freshly painted toes in bright hues to pop against our opened toed strappy numbers. Below, we pair a few of our favorite colors of-the-moment with choice sandals for the warm nights ahead. What do you think?

Happy Monday!

the shops at Target

Ever the Explorer brand, Target once again stays true to it's promise and story with this fabulous ( we can't wait!) concept ( well, at least in it's promotion, although "the discount boutique" rarely disappoints).  And, what's even more perfect, the boutiques in collaboration carry the same archetype ( sorry to get all "branding" on you). Did you know TMR did a collaboration with The Webster earlier this year? Can't wait to see what's in-store. We'll be there, will you?

We're only sad we won't be in Minneapolis to experience the concept at it's flagship stores. Review of goodies to come!

spring showers

With all the wet weather we've been having, we thought it appropriate to put together our must spring showers shortlist:

Footwear: The wellington. You can't go wrong with the Original Hunter. We recommend either navy or forrest green for the most classic approach. These are also great for yard work, or stopping around in puddles ( since we do that so often). We also like the interesting twist, these more modern one's take. From across the pond, these rubber rain boots will last forever. A definite do.

Outerwear: The trench. A classic staple in any stylish gals closet, this is a piece to invest in. Transcending seasons, trends and outfits, this lovely belted friend will not only keep you dry, but keep you looking chic and pulled together at the same time. Go on a mission to find one at your local thrift or re-sale shop. See TJ Maxx and Marshall's as well for some GREAT finds on a dime ( well not literally a dime... you know what I mean).

Accessories: a sturdy umbrella. Fashionable, yet wimpy won't get you far. With Windy City experience, we know that the brand/make actually does make a difference. Choose one one with classic appearance, and you can't go wrong. We like this one from American Apparel. Better yet, ask your grandmother or great aunty.... you can bet they have one (or two) that have stood the test of time!

Here's to rainy bad hair days, and more sunny warm ones!
