cozy knits

A big cozy wrap is a must for any lady residing in the midwest. Never a fan of creating a separate wardrobe for spring and summer, we suggest layering with balance. Save your white tanks for underneath a light knit sweater (which transitions easily into spring) and layer to achieve a little warmth. Then, balance out everything that's happening up top with the sleek slimness of this leather (ok, faux leather) skirt. One, which we recommend investing in for year-round wear. The best pieces are those you get the most use out of!

smitten with stripes

Teasingly, spring apparel has begun to emerge - appearing on the sales racks as if we could actually galavant around, at this moment, when freezing slush coats our boots and shoveling the drive becomes a must. Gross. No matter. Today, we break out the nautical and suggest that all women have a great classic stripe, skinny black pants, and the perfect back leather pump. Oui?

Here's to brighter skies and friendly waves ahead!

in the bag

Today we're sharing some of our daily must haves - what we tote around from 9 to 5 just in case an emergency should arrive. Not as exciting as what Beyonce' might be lugging, but you never know what you might find looking in another woman's purse. Right?

Our messenger tote. We finally snagged our perfect working girl satchel

with just the right amount of pockets to stash all our goodies...

  1. L'Occitane hand cream of the lavender variety - seriously the best hand cream. Perfect for chapped winter hands.
  2. Shanghai Express NARS lipstick. For red lip emergencies ( your worst enemy, or future husband might be just around the corner).
  3. OPI top coat. Even if you're not in the business of mani up-keep, this is the perfect solution for runs, among other things! ( just be sure the cap is on tight! Yes, that happened).
  4. Emory board, hair thingy and bobby pins. See note #2.
  5. Tide to go. Saves from grape, blueberry, yogurt, smoothie concoction spills on white pants, and sweaters and silk (yes, silk).
  6. Mouthwash. Save the hotel toiletries.
  7. Aveda Blue Oil and Personal blends Pure- fume. Because they de-stress and smell nice. Who doesn't want to smell nice?
  8. A pen for to-do's, another for "done's." Yes, we're analog ( for the most part) and like pretty paper
  9. Smiths Minted Rose Lip Balm
( Not pictured: Dr. Scholl's Moleskin - the cure for new - shoe - heel - rubbing, blisters!)

What are your daily essentials?

spotlight on oia jules

Bursting onto our radar about a year ago, Oia Jules, pronounced "ee-ah jules," has us enamored with their sweet chains and chunky natural stones.  With little over $50, here's just a smattering of what we're lusting after

Sweet right?

Happy Sunday!

casa de los lang

With the approaching drop in temperature, we can't help but think only of our much anticipated warm getaway to casa de los lang ( otherwise known as my (late) grandparent's house) - so fortunately situated just feet from where the pacific laps at the shores of Manzanillo, Mexico.

A quick stroll down the beach renders a tiny fishing village with some of the best tacos de frijoles and pina coladas this lady has ever enjoyed - we've already got our flip flops and suit laid out!

A few shots from the last time we visited.

See you soon mi casa bonita!

to outlet? or not to outlet?

We're all about great design on a dime - just as long as we all understand what we're really paying for, right?  Welcome to mindful Monday. When we take our clients shopping, or attempt to implore the "quality over quantity" MO (which, let's face it, we could all use a little work on... meaning, moi), we sometimes get sucked into what seems like a really great deal. Sometimes, you score, but sometimes, you'd be better off paying more, for quality, or the real thing.

Consider, "The Factory Store." Below, are two shirts - one from JCREW and one from JCREW Factory. The difference? ( besides the tags, and one being minty, and the other lemony... duh). One's made from Italian sourced silk, and the other... well, still 100% silk, but sourced from China.

The point my lovelies, is that it's priced lower because of the materials and the construction. Let's be mindful when we shop the outlet, yes?

Strategically located 30 miles (or so) outside of major metropolitan areas, The Outlet gives you the feeling of: "Gosh, I just drove all the way here. These deals are so great... and well, I just don't know when I'll be back! It's too good to pass up!" And, as in our JCrew Factory example ( which ps, we actually really love to death), they design and produce clothing specifically for that line.

It's not  - "JCrew discounted." It's a totally separate line ( sometimes borrowing the same design/patterns), but produced for a lower retail price because the materials are different, and construction is done somewhere else. We still love the line - the design is great and the fit seems to compliment us, however, we know what we're paying for... and what we're not. So should you.

We also bring to your attention, the fit. Many outlet store's carry off-sizes or pieces that have small defects, which to the naked eye, can go unnoticed. Always try-on, always. That goes for non-outlet escapades as well.

Our last bit of advice? If you wouldn't pay full price, it's not worth it. Save it for those amazing DVF pants, that fit just perfectly (and make your bum look fab).

sunday spotlight on

Prabal Gurung for Target. Woo! While launching his own collection just only two years ago, he has already garnered rave reviews and well-deserved awards.

Singapore-born and Nepal-raised, his inspiring and fresh aesthetic draws inspiration from his own travels and work around the globe - transforming clothing into wearable art.

Hitting Feb 10th, we're hoping for a better showcase than that of the retailer's last collabs with Nieman Marcus and "The Shops" — underwhelmed is an understatement.

While Elle.com unveiled the first look on Friday, we highlight our choice selects: classic heels (below), flower print and a great blouse—perfect for spring.

Appropriate for the month of love reveal, Gurung notes how the collection is "Inspired by a girl’s journey through the different stages of love and the clothes she wears during each milestone—from the initial first crush all the way to the engagement " (via Elle).

The 80-plus piece collection includes flowy frocks, fashionable flats and bangles - all infused with the hyper-color that is Gurung. Can't wait to snag those heels!

wednesday wisdom

We often find that mid week is the most opportune ( not to mention, needed) time for a dose of some healthy food for thought. And, a girl's best accessory is a little confidence, so we're starting a new series to inspire us accordingly.

Happy Wednesday!

color splash

It is within these doldrum winter days that we long for more sunshine, more warmth, more life! And with resort torturing us everywhere, it's only appropriate to start breaking out some of the brightest within our closet ( with a pop of leopard print for good measure). While a little loud, we think it's exactly what these cold winter days require.

wear: magenta + mint ( a variation on the complimentary red and green) with a few touches of hammered gold, lucite and animal print.

Shirt (Boutique, Ellison) / Scarf ( Target, sold out) / Earrings (Stella & Dot, sold out)

Hope your day is bright and sunny!
