"nice" tip: scuffs on patent leather

We love patent - not the scuffs that often accompany a few out and about excursions. How to banish the unfortunate signs of wear, you ask? The cheapest nail polish remover, q-tips and your capable dexterity's.

Simply pour a bit of the remover into the cap, dip the q-tip in, and then rub over the mark you wish to relinquish for good. Ta Da!

Happy Sunday!

spotlight: Everlane

When we spot "nice," it's our duty to bring it to our lovely readers and clients. As such, we highlight one of our new found friends - with timeless, luxury design, at a cost that cuts out the middle man. Nice, oui?!

Cali based Everlane sells exclusively online - avoiding traditional markups as a result, and brings us fabulous design, construction and classic pieces that are so worth the price tag.

Without recreating the entire site, we highlight a few of our faves:

Cashmere, at a mere $120, yes, we're sold

Navy is one of our favorite hues. Belts come in a variety of colors, with choice of silver or gold buckle.

Supposedly this is a sweatshirt. And, yes, we think it's perfect!

A great durable weekender bag in quite the luscious hue!
Seriously, this gorgeous 100% silk blouse is only $80?

Perfecting the his for hers look, our search for the perfect white button down is over.

Another great staple, for only $15!!! The White T!

We better stop now before we start spending our entire pay check!

dream big. wednesday wisdom

Today, we're inspired by an unlikely lady - one, former super model Kathy Ireland. A little strange, yet entirely appropriate. Featured on the cover of Forbes ( last year, I believe?) this lady is quite the business mogul, running an international million dollar design (among other things) empire. And, we're heading to the DreamBank tomorrow night for a styling workshop, so this seemed appropriate.

Happy Wednesday!

Happy St. Patty's Day

With a name like "Mary Kathleen," we're all kinds of Irish, although we're not much one to imbibe in green beer debauchery. We do, however, love to don a bit of green and gold ( and suggest you do the same), especially with emerald taking center stage as Pantone's 2013 color of the year. A little "magically delicious" treat ( yes, we snagged a box of Lucky Charms) is the perfect way to start a Sunday. And, we can't help but highlight this awesome leather vintage clutch, picked up at local gem, GoodStyleShop ( for $16)  yesterday! They can count on spotting us around much more!

Hope you all are enjoying the green, gold and lucky festivities!

We're getting really excited about our fashion/style workshop next week with local Madison ladies at American Family's DreamBank  and wanted to share a little preview. You may remember us crushing on cobalt, and this snippet on color falls right in step.

classic pretty in pink

It's the one we always go back to, the one that looks good on every. single. lady. Forget crazy patterns and "art," and let's focus on the polish that does what it says - polishes. For the perfect pink ( that isn't too pink-ish), turn to Essie Ballet Slippers. It's never steered us wrong and won't lead you astray either. The best thing, is that even with a bit of misstep, your manicure looks clean, classic and fresh from afar. Natural without being natural, it's perhaps the perfect polish ever made.

What is your go-to polish?

2 classics, 3 fresh ways

Often asked about what to invest in vs skimp on, today we suggest two classic, transcendent and versatile pieces that can be styled and worn a variety of ways. You don't have to spend a lot of money to look great and building around great basics is key. Without much further ado, we bring you the classic chambray shirt and black leather pointy pumps - 2 must have basics for any working wardrobe, in three fun, fresh ways!

Look 1: It's a fine line between slutty and sophisticated when red and black come together ( especially with a little gold). However, this chambray shirt adds just the right amount of casual polish and when paired with its primary counter part, you're at the head of the class (especially with this classic black watch and specs).

Look 2: For the daring lady, may we suggest balancing out the sparkly of this sequin with the classic blue of denim. Offering a great base underneath a fun neutral colored polka dot, we suggest pairing it with a statement orange, complimentary colored, necklace

Look 3: Last, but not least, we suggest a simple pencil skirt in a fun pop of color. This strong color blocked look calls for a fun pop of  belted leopard print and sleek tassel necklace.

How do you style your basics?

rainy day essentials

There’s nothing easy and breezy about wet spring weather; with the past couple of days being a true testament of our ability to withstand the cold, rainy and downright gross outdoors, here in the Midwest. By the time most of us have walked a few blocks, whether running errands or commuting to work, we can often end up feeling and looking like a sad wet dog, which is not something that this fashionista much appreciates. With today ushering in a gloomy drip drip pummel against the window pane, we're hardly up for doing much of anything, anyway. As such, we bring you rainy day essentials

Hot Tea and a Good Read:
We can't blame you for not wanting to brave the elements. Curling up with a good read and hot tea is one of the best ways to spend a rainy Sunday. May we suggest pairing this nice lavender earl grey with all things Parisian Chic? Such a great style guide!

Cozy Wrap:
One of our signature's, a cozy wrap is essential year-round. A great layering piece, this one balances out the cinched waist of the trench, and sort of makes one feel as if they're wearing a blanket - which is a bonus on days where we just want to stay under the covers.

The Trench:
Most of us have one, know someone who has one, or have owned one at some point in our lifetimes. I am talking ladies about the ever versatile, ever classic, ever staple, trench. And it is no less than a must have for this spring season. Putting Burberry on the map, this one simple add to your wardrobe can take you from wet to wonderful, cold to chic and works with a summer dress or with flats and jeans (some, more daring individuals, even choose to skip the dress completely).

Can’t afford Burberry you fret? Never fear, nearly everyone is carrying them. From Old Navy to Ralph Lauren, there’s one in every color, in nearly every price range. Guaranteed, this one piece will be in your closet FOREVER. It truly is an investment piece; they’re hot every spring, and they keep you dry - so consider your options carefully. Be sure to look for one with a removable liner for maximum versatility. Another word from the wise: check out shops like TJ MAAX, Loehman’s, Burlington Coat Factory or even Steinmart. A lot of big department stores purchased too much inventory at the end of last year, and these second hander’s are chock full of new, luscious, designer and brand name spring coats. On a recent trip to TJ MAAX, we spotted everyone from Via Spiga to London Fog and Anne Klein to Calvin. Go check it out!

The Welly:
Also referred to as “rubbers,” (hee hee) these wellies are being spotted all over town. Migrating over from across the pond, the UK originals are great for keeping feet dry, warm and fashionable to boot! We are more than ecstatic that our favorite brand, Hunter, and the original “wellie,” are quite the fashion statement - you can see ours have made a few trips outside of just your weekday stroll. Making appearances at big name retailers like Nordstrom's (the experts in all things shoes), the former online only dweller is making a big name for itself stateside.  Hunter boots will make you want to go puddle jumping like you did when you were five, and you’ll look fab doing it. Available for $115 at Cornblums’s at Hilldale in a rainbow of colors, you’ll be freed from the wet, slush and slop that epitomizes the weather today - which we're sure to see more of in the coming months. The brand also makes great fleece and wool socks to line your cute but functional boots with.

Now if we could only do something about those crappy umbrellas.... do yours ever stay upright?

Hope you're dry and snuggly!

tuesday tresses

Let's face it. Tuesday hair is not Monday hair. And, really, who wants to re-wash and re-style the great Monday hair you started the week out with? Here's how to take Monday's fabulousness into Tuesday (plus Wednesday if your lucky), and protect your tresses. Since we all know washing everyday is a no -no anyway.

The secret? PSSSSSST! (Dry Shampoo). No, we're not attempting to whisper. That's the crazy, funny, yet entirely spot on, brand name.

And, with packaging that takes us back to the 80s (New Look?!), it really can't be beat - especially on price. For $6.99, it's one of those classic drugstore beauty buys that stands the test of time. Plus, one of our faves (natch).

Okay, but how does it smell? Lovely in fact. Just lovely. Pretty much perfect.

Don't you love it when that happens?

Spraying just bit around the roots, Monday's hair is clean, volumized, and  ready to take on Tuesday.

prabal gurung: girly + tough

Juxtaposing the feminine and the tough, this Prabal Gurung for Target sleeveless top has us longing for warm tropical weekend nights. And with another blizzard approaching... sigh... we're even further from breaking out these strappy heels. Alas. So to help channel a bit of warmth, we played it up just a bit more with these accessories ( scored at TJ MAXX, no less!) that do just the same. Donning a work appropriate blazer perfects it for day.

This chained bracelet is super tough, but the sparkles are just enough to bring balance, without being overdone. While delicate, the necklace brings a bit of sass with just the right amount of spike.

Anyone else ready to break out the open toes?
